Economic Generalist

CGR Overview:  CGR is a project-oriented nonprofit providing objective policy analysis and management assistance.  Our clients include government, business, and nonprofit organizations.  With offices in Rochester and Albany, NY, CGR works to develop in-depth, creative, and workable solutions to public policy challenges.

Qualifications: CGR seeks an economic generalist for projects ranging from economic impact assessment and local public finance to regional economic analysis and economic development.  Successful CGR staff members are self starters with a strong preference for variety and possessing solid academic backgrounds, strong analytical abilities, and superior writing skills.  The position typically calls for a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Economics, but we will consider training in public policy, public administration, or a related field.  Experience with the public and nonprofit sectors is desirable, but not essential.  Our research staffers are flexible and able to work simultaneously on a range of projects with a team of individuals trained in a variety of disciplines including the human services, public health, and public administration.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Rochester, NY, with occasional travel requirements.  Placement in our Albany, NY office may be possible for a promising candidate.

Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate

CGR Overview:  CGR is a project-oriented nonprofit providing objective policy analysis and management assistance.  Our clients include government, business, and nonprofit organizations.  With offices in Rochester and Albany, NY, CGR works to develop in-depth, creative, and workable solutions to public policy challenges.

Research Associate Duties: Performs research tasks as directed by senior staff members.  Tasks range from assignments of a routine nature to levels of moderate complexity.  Work consists of making contacts for data and other information sources, collection of data and information, compilation of data and assembly in graphic, tabular, and written form, preparation of written interpretation and analyses, and preparation of drafts of study reports.  Other duties are assigned at the discretion of senior staff and the president.

Senior Research Associate Duties: Performs all duties of Research Associate, in addition to the following.  Contributes to strategic planning around CGR-initiated marketing opportunities/RFPs; discusses potential projects with current clients and other contacts under guidance of supervisor; prepares proposals at the instigation of supervisor or at own instigation. Serves as a professional and articulate representative of CGR with all clients and, with the approval of supervisor, may be the primary contact with clients from initial contact through project close-out on selected projects. Productively participates in and/or supervises multiple projects and keeps supervisors informed regarding progress.

Qualifications: The positions typically call for a Master’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree with five or more years relevant experience. Potential Research Associates and Sr. Research Associates are highly motivated individuals with solid academic backgrounds, strong analytical abilities and superior writing skills.  Advanced coursework or training in economics, statistics, public policy, public administration, or a related field is preferred but not required. Experience with the public and not for profit sectors is desirable, but not essential.  CGR Research Associates and Sr. Research Associates work on a range of projects involving public sector management, economic development, program evaluation, and human services analysis.  Our research staffers are flexible and able to work simultaneously on a range of projects with a team of diverse individuals.

This multifaceted position is part of a diverse and dynamic team of public policy professionals, including economists, human services analysts, and management analysts.  This is a permanent, full-time position based in Albany, NY, with occasional travel requirements.
